A mother of young Sikh children in the Toronto wanted her kids to live active and healthy lives just like kids everywhere. She decided that her kids shouldn’t be stigmatized, penalized or put at safety risk because of their turbans.

As an occupational therapist, Tina Sing is keenly aware of the importance of exercise and safety and was frustrated with the lack of helmet choices for her kids. Standard helmets simply don't fit turbans and top knots.

Why is there a need for a new kind of helmet?

As traditional Sikhs they keep their hair, and regular helmets simply don’t fit. She tried the things other Sikh parents were doing – ordering up a size, carving out the foam padding,  or not wearing a helmet but decided that these were not workable solutions. The safety of her children was compromised by these options.

Working with acquired brain injury patients has shown her the importance of well fitting helmets when riding a bike, motorcycle or playing sports. After exhausting the existing helmet options she became frustrated with the lack of any safe one and decided to design her own helmet.

What kind of helmet is the new design?

The result of her hard work and initiative is the first safety certified multisport helmet specifically designed for kids with turbans. The helmet is now in production and certified for use for children over 5 for riding bicycles, inline skates, scooters, and skateboarding.

Why is Acquired Brain Injury a concern?

Acquired brain injury includes concussion, traumatic brain injury and more serious brain damage. These injuries can have lifelong and life-altering impacts for everyone but are particularly serious in children and their developing brains.

If you or a loved one has suffered from an acquired brain injury due to the negligence of someone else you should contact one of our highly experienced personal injury lawyers today.
