In yet another breakthrough advancement of technology the US Military has announced that a 28 year old paralyzed amputee can now ‘feel touch’ with his prosthetic hand. A branch of the American Military, DARPA, concentrates its work on military robotics but it also had a program to revolutionize prosthetic limbs.

This technology has ‘broken new ground’ as it routes the prosthetic’s electronic signals back to the brain directly into the sensory cortex. In order for the technology to work the patient underwent brain surgery and had micro-electrode arrays implanted into his brain.

This research program is ongoing and is intended to allow injured service people to one day return to duty. This technology has also been applied to robotics used to manipulate unexploded bombs ordinance keeping bomb disposal experts safe.
