Top 8 bad driving habits

We see them every day on the road. People who just haven't grasped that there are rules to driving and that when we follow the rules traffic moves as it should, there are no surprises and collisions are reduced. This list of the 8 worst driving habits sums is up nicely and is based on an article on Driving.ca the other day.

  1. People who don't signal. Somehow they assume that people around them simply know what they are intending to do. This is particularly annoying in intersections and at round-a-bouts. They know where they are going and to them that’s all that matters. Unfortunately they tend to cause accidents in their wake by leaving everyone guessing.
  2. ‘Why clear the snow’ drivers. You know these ones. It snowed and freezing rained leaving the car encased in white stuff. These people clear off the smallest space possible at their windshield and assume that they can drive safely using the 12’x12’ patch they cleared on the one window. They speed up on the road and leave everyone behind them blinded by snow and ice flying off their car.
  3. The person who cannot seem to get through a four way stop intersection without waiving everyone through first. Not only do they back up traffic and confuse the flow, they cause accidents.
  4. The incompetent merger. Either they stop at the beginning of the merge lane looking to be let in, thereby disrupting all traffic flow behind them AND causing a dangerous situation on the road as they try to accelerate to speed, OR they accelerate up the merge lane and cut into the traffic flow at crazy speed at the last moment, usually cutting someone off.
  5. People who enter highways well below the posted speed. They get onto the onramp and merge into traffic going far too slowly. They might get up to speed sometime, or maybe they just like to drive at the minimum of 80 waiting to be rear ended.
  6. Tailgaters. You know the ones. You can’t even see their headlights in your rear view mirror. They are in a hurry don’t you know.
  7. Left Lane Hogs. They just get into the left lane and stay there. Regardless of speed of traffic or the flow of traffic, although they are usually going below the speed of fast traffic flow. They force other drivers into passing on the right which is unsafe. They usually don’t notice that either though…
  8. The weavers. These aren’t the ones making placemats. These are the ones, usually not signalling, who think they are playing a video game passing and weaving through the line of cars. They don’t seem to get too far though before they are jammed up behind some truck or other.
