Slip and Fall Accidents

Winter is the most time for slip and fall injuries around homes and in public spaces. The snow and ice can make walking surfaces slippery, and the tracked in water on inside floors makes them dangerous as well. It is important to take measures as a property owner to keep your property safe for you and your guests.

If someone is injured on your property (delivery person, friend, babysitter etc.) that person may take you to court. Being properly insured is a good measure to take as even seemingly minor injuries can take a long time to heal and can require intensive therapies. According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada people are more likely to sue after an injury if they think that they have been wronged.

You can take some easy steps to make your property safer:

  1. Keep your outdoor walking surfaces clear of snow and ice by shovelling and applying sand and salt as needed.

  2. Keep your walkways, stairs and driveways in good repair.

  3. Put down non-slip rugs or mats in your front hall to absorb snow and ice and to keep your floors dry and safe.
