Profits at insurance companies up

The Ontario Trial Lawyers Association released an eye opening report by Drs. Lazar and Prisman last week detailing key findings. Here are just a few of them:
- Ontarians OVERPAID between $3-$4 billion between 2001 – 2013
- Standard coverage has been reduced by 50% from $100,000 to $50,000
- Medical and rehabilitation benefits have been slashed for Minor Injuries from $100,000 to $3,500.
All of this while the insurance companies continue to profit, and while the provincial government promises more premiums cuts. These premium cuts will come at the cost of reduced benefits again. It is a short sighted view by the government. People seem happy to pay less for their insurance until they have and accident and find out how little coverage they have for legitimate injuries.
