For some people with spinal cord injury every day tasks like holding a cup of water or brushing their teeth is not possible. These individuals become reliant on others for day to day needs , or on specially made physical aides to live life more independently. Either way it is difficult to function when it takes minutes and serious work to accomplish tasks that that required no thought before injury.

Spinal cord injury from car accident, workplace injuries, sports accidents or battlefield injuries have life long profound impacts on quality of life and long-term health of the individual. Not only are they physically and emotionally devastating. They are financially expensive and in many cases, require that the injured individual has full time care available.

Symptoms of spinal cord injury can vary from full paralysis of the effected parts of the body, to partial paralysis leaving the individual with severe pain, numbness, jerking movements, and other muscle spasm issues in ‘incomplete’ spinal cord injuries.

The Neofect, a Korean company, has launched a new NeoMano glove at the Consumer Electronics Show this month. The prototype is looks like a sports glove. It covers two fingers and the thumb. It’s made of leather and has titanium wiring that moves the leather form around the digits. It has two settings that are grip and release.

Neofect currently has the Rapael Smart Glove for hand rehab widely available for stroke victims. The NeoMano is aimed at helping even more people with disabilities. You can read about it here.
