Municipality responsible to ensure that cars have clear line of sight at intersections

On July 16, 2014 two cars were involved in an accident at Sandhills Road and Bleams Road in Waterloo Region.  The accident occurred at approximatley 5:30pm.  A Chevrolet Impala car hit the driver side of a Mitsubishi car causing damage to thee driver side of the car.  The Impala car had stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded and hit the Mitsubishi car.  The driver of the Impala car was charged with failing to yield to the Mitsubishi car which had the right of way.  Paramedics and firefighters attended at the scene of the two car accident.  The intersection in Wilmot Township, in Waterloo Region, as reported in the New Hamburg Independent had been the site of serious car accidents previously.  Cars travelling along Sandhills Road are required to yield to cars travelling on Bleams Road.  However, traffic visibility is somewhat impacted by  a hill and high speeds can make the intersection dangerous.  When you are injured in a car accident, it is important to obtain a legal assessment to ascertain all parties that may be liable for the accident and your  injuries.  Where visibility is hindered by geography, then the municipal authority responsible for the roadway may bear some liability for not ensuring that, where reasonable, the ability to travel along a roadway is as safe as possible, which includes appropriate speed markings and also clear line of sight angles.  There are strict time limitations and you should consult with a personal injury lawyer early in the process to learn about your legal rights.
