The CSN is a network of 14 brain injury associations throughout Ontario working collaboratively on projects to improve the quality of life for those living with the effects of ABI. Paquette Travers & Deutschmann were corporate sponsors of this important conference.
Robert Deutschmann gave a presentation entitled "Lawyer, Case Manager, Candlestick Maker" that addressed the many "hats" that a lawyer can wear while assisting brain injured victims.
Rob's presentation points out that a large number of mild brain injury cases arising from accidents, such as car accidents or trip and falls, go undetected. Symptoms such as personality changes and mild cognitive problems are not always connected with the prior accident or with brain injury. The accident may not be viewed as severe or it may be perceived that the mechanics of the accident could not have caused anything more than a whiplash type injury. The lawyer will obtain all medical documentation and consult with medical professionals to assist in early diagnosis.
In many cases, the treating health practitioner or occupational therapist may be focusing on other aspects of treatment and not consider that the injured person has suffered a mild brain injury.
